Start A Hive. Have Your Own Source of Natural Bee Products.

Start your own hive. You can do few things more useful, interesting, and satisfying than providing a home for a bee colony! How do you get started? A key decision is your choice of hive. A number of beekeepers consider the Top Bar hive to be the best choice for hobbyists. The Top Bar hive is a much simpler system and usually a smaller hive.

Do your research and see which on will suit you before investing any money. If is always a good idea to get up close and personal with bees in the first place, just to make sure that you really want to take it on. It is not unknown for would-be beekeepers to have a change of heart when they have a few dozen bees bumping their viel or they decide it is too much work or too complicated. But, I am glad to say that they are few and far between.

Many even find that one hive is not enough for them and get a second or third. As a matter of fact it is a good idea to get a second hive. It gives you something to compare to if you thing something may not be right at one of your hives. Also, if you are having serious problems with one hive you can use the second to requeen or repopulate it.

One thing I would say is don't get into it with the idea of making money selling honey or any of the other bee products. It's not going to happen. You may be able to sell a little. But you will probably find that what you make from beekeeping is hardly enough to cover your costs.
